An egg lay upon a leaf.
It knew not pain, it knew not grief.
A caterpillar hatched upon the earth,
Seeming to have little or no worth.
What was its purpose?
What was its reason?
Was it only here for a season?
The winter was hard and unkind.
Food and leaves were hard to find,
But it weathered the storms
And grew through the rain.
It grew through the cold
And grew through the pain.
Then one day the clouds did clear.
A rainbow, a promise did appear.
A tiny little caterpillar did grow strong
After being patient all winter long.
He built himself a snug cocoon
Where he grew and changed, but not too soon.
God created a secret place where only He
could see the face that changed,
the insect that was rearranged.
When the cocoon opened, the purpose of the
caterpillar’s pain was revealed.
The reason for its change was sealed.
God had created a marvelous butterfly,
a miracle of His hands.
The butterfly went from climbing tree-barked towers
to flying and drinking nectar from the flowers.
He went from crawling on the ground
to knowing his purpose he had found.
God has a plan so much greater for us
as we trust in His Word and lean on the Cross,
We can move any mountain,
We can face any loss.
With Love,
